Employment Services

Employment Services supports access to the labour market for jobseekers at local, regional and national level and assists employers who are seeking to fill job vacancies. Employment Service is delivered by the National Employment Service (NES) which operates nationally through 63 local Employment Service offices and Local Employment Service offices (LES) which operate in 24 designated areas of disadvantage and provides a fully integrated nationwide range of services and supports.

Jobseekers

The services and supports available for jobseekers through Employment Service include:-

  • Guidance interviews to discuss employment opportunities, training courses, financial supports and other options which may lead to employment.
  • Information provision on the complete range of training programmes available for jobseeker’s and advice on labour market opportunities and services available.
  • Help with identifying transferable skills which may be used in various occupational settings.
  • A Jobseeker Pack which provides information on using the job search facility on the Jobs Ireland web site, information on how to: fill out an application form, prepare a CV and covering letter, prepare for a job interviews and a list of useful websites.
  • Jobseekers may also input their CVs directly onto the Jobs Ireland database allowing employers to access these CVs with a view to contacting the Jobseekers directly regarding job vacancies.
  • There are a number programmes such as the Wage Subsidy Scheme (WSS) which assists jobseekers who have difficulty obtaining/maintaining employment,
  • European Employment Services Network (EURES) job mobility network/database which provides access to job vacancies in 31 countries, as well as practical information such as necessary documentation for those seeking employment within Europe.
  • International Employment Services runs a series of National & Regional Jobs Fairs providing access to employers both from Ireland and the EU/EEA, access to training and employment programmes, and information on issues regarding taxation, welfare, education and other activation measures.

Employers

The services available to employers through Employment Services Include:-

  • Jobs Ireland website for employers to advertise their job vacancies and JobBridge internship opportunities, Work Placement Programme (WPP) opportunities and Community Employment Vacancies
  • A National Contact Centre for employers to register vacancies and internships (free phone 1800 611 116).
  • A local job matching service for employers.
  • Wide distribution of job vacancy/internship information - within Ireland and through the EURES job mobility network.
  • Access to information including current labour market information via the website
  • A Wage Subsidy Scheme which provides financial incentives to employers, outside the public sector to employ disabled people who work more than 20 hours per week.
  • Grants to support the employment of disabled people - Workplace Adaptation Grant, Job Interview/Personal Reader, Employee Retention.
