- What are part-time education courses?
- How do I apply?
1. What are part-time education courses?
If you don't want to study full-time, you may often be able to take a part-time education course without it affecting your unemployment payment. Before you start, check with your local Social Welfare Office to see if your payment will be affected.
To continue to get the same amount of unemployment payment you must be able to show that the course does not reduce your availability for work. You must satisfy your local Social Welfare Office that you are still actively looking for and willing to take up work and that the course is likely to improve your chances of getting a job.
2. How do I apply?
You should contact your local VEC, school or college, public library or Citizens Information Centre (CIC) for details of the courses you can take and advice on how to get a place on the course of your choice.
When you have got a place on a course, apply by completing application form BTE 1.
Return the completed form BTE 1 to your local Social Welfare Office.
