The National Fuel Scheme is intended to help households that depend on long-term social welfare or Health Service Executive payments and are unable to provide for their own heating needs.  A household may receive only one Fuel Allowance

The National Fuel Scheme is intended to help households that depend on long-term social welfare or Health Service Executive payments and are unable to provide for their own heating needs.  The Scheme Operates for 30 weeks from September to April.


Smokeless Fuel Allowance (SMOG)


This allowance helps low income households meet the extra costs of using smokeless or low smoke fuels in certain areas where the sale of bituminous fuel is banned.  You must be getting a fuel allowance under the National Fuel Scheme, or on certain 'short term' payments for at least 3 months, or Family Income Supplement (FIS) to receive this allowance.
